The Challenge
Corporate procurement is painful. Buyers spend hours comparing specs, checking bulk availability, and haggling over volume discounts. Our client, a global electronics distributor with a headless Commercetools backend, wanted to automate this friction.
They noticed that their enterprise clients were starting to deploy “Procurement Bots” to scrape pricing, but these bots were breaking the site and missing negotiated rate cards.
The Solution
ForkPoint built a multi-protocol agent commerce layer using UCP and A2A standards, bypassing the storefront entirely for certified agent traffic:
- Authenticated UCP Handshake: We implemented a secure mTLS handshake that allowed client procurement bots to identify themselves and instantly access their negotiated contract pricing.
- Automated RFQ Processing: Instead of emailing a PDF RFQ, client agents can now submit a digital Request for Quote via UCP. Our system analyzes inventory and margin targets to instantly return a counter-offer or firm price.
- Smart Substitution: If a requested part is out of stock, the UCP endpoint suggests functionally equivalent alternatives with a “confidence score,” allowing the buying agent to approve the swap automatically.
The Results
The shift from “Human B2B” to “Agent B2B” has been dramatic:
- 85% reduction in procurement cycle time (from days to minutes).
- 450+ autonomous orders per month processed without sales rep intervention.
